सॉफ्टवेयर कंप्यूटर का वह भाग जिसे हम देख और महसूस तो कर सकते है पर छू नहीं सकते है।
कई सारे इंस्ट्रक्शन्स से मिलकर एक प्रोग्राम का निर्माण होता है और बहुत सारे प्रोग्राम मिलकर एक सॉफ्टवेयर का निर्माण करते है।
इसीलिए सॉफ्टवेयर = सेट ऑफ़ प्रोग्रामस।
प्रोग्राम = सेट ऑफ़ इंस्ट्रक्शन्स।
* सबसे पहला प्रोग्राम "लेडी ऐडा लवलेस" ने लिखा था।
सॉफ्टवेयर तीन प्रकार के होते है :-
1. सिस्टम सॉफ्टवेयर
2. एप्लीकेशन सॉफ्टवेयर
3. यूटिलिटी सॉफ्टवेयर
सिस्टम सॉफ्टवेयर :- सिस्टम सॉफ्टवेयर वे होते है जो कंप्यूटर के हार्डवेयर को को नियंत्रित करते है। बिना सिस्टम सॉफ्टवेयर के आपका कंप्यूटर केवल एक मृत शरीर के समान है।
सिस्टम सॉफ्टवेयर के प्रकार :-
1. ऑपरेटिंग सिस्टम :- वे होते है जो कंप्यूटर को ऑपरेट करने में सहायता करते है जैसे :-
>> विंडोज
>> मैक
>> आई ओ एस
>> एंड्राइड
>> Linux
>> यूनिक्स आदि।
2. लैंग्वेज ट्रांसलेटर
>> असेम्बलर
>> कंपायलर
>> इंटरपरेटर
एप्लीकेशन सॉफ्टवेयर :- वे सॉफ्टवेयर होते है जिन्हे हम अपने ऑपरेटिंग सिस्टम में अपनी आवश्यकतानुसार इनस्टॉल करते है। ये भी दो प्रकार के होते है।
1. सामान्य प्रयोग हेतु बेसिक एप्लीकेशन सॉफ्टवेयर या होरीज़ोंटल सॉफ्टवेयर।
इसमें वे सॉफ्टवेयर आते है जो हमें ऑनलाइन आसानी से मिल जाते है और हम उन्हें अपने सिस्टम में इनस्टॉल कर सकते है जैसे :-
> माइक्रोसॉफ्ट ऑफिस
> ऑपन ऑफिस
> मीडिया प्लेयर आदि।
2. खास उद्देश्य से बनाये गए सॉफ्टवेयर या वर्टीकल सॉफ्टवेयर।
इसमें वे सॉफ्टवेयर आते है जो किसी खास उदेश्य से बनाये जाते है। जिसे हर कोई अपने सिस्टम में जब चाहे इनस्टॉल नहीं कर सकता जैसे :-
>> Finacle
>> एम आई बी एस आदि।
3. यूटिलिटी सॉफ्टवेयर :- ये वे सॉफ्टवेयर होते है जिनका उपयोग ऑपरेटिंग सिस्टम की कार्यक्षमता को बढ़ाने के लिए किया जाता है जैसे :-
>> डिवाइस ड्राइवर्स
>> एंटीवायरस
>> डिस्क डिफरेंगमेंट
>> फायरवॉल आदि।
इसके अलवा हम सॉफ्टवेयर को ऑपन सोर्स और क्लोज सोर्स में भी विभाजीत कर सकते है।
ऑपन सोर्स वे सॉफ्टवेयर होते है जिन्हे हम अपने सिस्टम में आसानी से इनस्टॉल करके इस्तेमाल कर सकते है। इसके लिए हमें कोई पेमेंट भी नहीं करनी होती।
जबकि क्लोज सोर्स सॉफ्टवेयर में "लाइसेंस की" की आवश्यकता होती है। साथ ही ये वे सॉफ्टवेयर होते है जिनका इस्तेमाल करने के लिए हमें पेमेंट देनी पड़ती है।
लिनक्स और एंड्राइड एक ऑपन सोर्स सॉफ्टवेयर है जबकि यूनिक्स, विंडोज, आई ओ एस, मैक क्लोज सोर्स सॉफ्टवेयर के उदाहरण है।
